Heat Transfer XIII

Heat Transfer XIII PDF Author: B. Sundén
Publisher: WIT Press
ISBN: 1845647947
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 549

Book Description
Heat Transfer XIII: Simulation and Experiments in Heat and Mass Transfer contains the proceedings of the thirteenth conference in the well established series on Simulation and Experiments in Heat Transfer and its applications. Advances in computational methods for solving and understanding heat transfer problems continue to be important because heat transfer topics and related phenomena are commonly of a complex nature and different mechanisms like heat conduction, convection, turbulence, thermal radiation and phase change as well as chemical reactions may occur simultaneously. Typically, applications are found in heat exchangers, gas turbine cooling, turbulent combustion and fires, fuel cells, batteries, micro- and mini- channels, electronics cooling, melting and solidification, chemical processing etc. Heat Transfer might be regarded as an established and mature scientific discipline, but it has played a major role in new emerging areas such as sustainable development and reduction of greenhouse gases as well as for micro- and nano- scale structures and bioengineering. Non-linear phenomena other than momentum transfer may occur due to temperature-dependent thermophysical properties. In engineering design and development, reliable and accurate computational methods are requested to replace or complement expensive and time consuming experimental trial an error work. Tremendous advancements have been achieved during recent years due to improved numerical solution methods for non-linear partial differential equations, turbulence modelling advancements and developments of computers and computing algorithms to achieve efficient and rapid simulations. Nevertheless, to further progress in computational methods requires developments in theoretical and predictive procedures – both basic and innovative – and in applied research. Accurate experimental investigations are needed to validate the numerical calculations. Topics covered include: Heat transfer in energy producing devices; Heat transfer enhancements; Heat exchangers; Natural and forced convection and radiation; Multiphase flow heat transfer; Modelling and experiments; Heat recovery; Heat and mass transfer problems; Environmental heat transfer; Experimental and measuring technologies; Thermal convert studies.

All of these chapters include the latest methods for predicting not only local heat transfer coefficients but also pressure drops.Professors and students will find this 'Encyclopedia of Two-Phase Heat Transfer and Flow' particularly exciting, as it contains authored books and thorough state-of-the-art reviews on many basic and special topics, such as numerical modeling of two-phase heat transfer and adiabatic bubbly and slug flows, the unified annular flow boiling model, flow pattern maps, condensation and boiling theories, new emerging topics, etc.

Numerical Simulation for Next Generation Thermal Power Plants

Numerical Simulation for Next Generation Thermal Power Plants PDF Author: Falah Alobaid
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319762346
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 431

Book Description
The book provides highly specialized researchers and practitioners with a major contribution to mathematical models’ developments for energy systems. First, dynamic process simulation models based on mixture flow and two-fluid models are developed for combined-cycle power plants, pulverised coal-fired power plants, concentrated solar power plant and municipal waste incineration. Operation data, obtained from different power stations, are used to investigate the capability of dynamic models to predict the behaviour of real processes and to analyse the influence of modeling assumptions on simulation results. Then, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation programme, so-called DEMEST, is developed. Here, the fluid-solid, particle-particle and particle-wall interactions are modeled by tracking all individual particles. To this purpose, the deterministic Euler-Lagrange/Discrete Element Method (DEM) is applied and further improved. An emphasis is given to the determination of inter-phase values, such as volumetric void fraction, momentum and heat transfers, using a new procedure known as the offset-method and to the particle-grid method allowing the refinement of the grid resolution independently from particle size. Model validation is described in detail. Moreover, thermochemical reaction models for solid fuel combustion are developed based on quasi-single-phase, two-fluid and Euler-Lagrange/MP-PIC models. Measurements obtained from actual power plants are used for validation and comparison of the developed numerical models.
