Statistical Image Processing and Multidimensional Modeling

Statistical Image Processing and Multidimensional Modeling PDF Author: Paul Fieguth
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1441972943
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 454

Book Description
Images are all around us! The proliferation of low-cost, high-quality imaging devices has led to an explosion in acquired images. When these images are acquired from a microscope, telescope, satellite, or medical imaging device, there is a statistical image processing task: the inference of something—an artery, a road, a DNA marker, an oil spill—from imagery, possibly noisy, blurry, or incomplete. A great many textbooks have been written on image processing. However this book does not so much focus on images, per se, but rather on spatial data sets, with one or more measurements taken over a two or higher dimensional space, and to which standard image-processing algorithms may not apply. There are many important data analysis methods developed in this text for such statistical image problems. Examples abound throughout remote sensing (satellite data mapping, data assimilation, climate-change studies, land use), medical imaging (organ segmentation, anomaly detection), computer vision (image classification, segmentation), and other 2D/3D problems (biological imaging, porous media). The goal, then, of this text is to address methods for solving multidimensional statistical problems. The text strikes a balance between mathematics and theory on the one hand, versus applications and algorithms on the other, by deliberately developing the basic theory (Part I), the mathematical modeling (Part II), and the algorithmic and numerical methods (Part III) of solving a given problem. The particular emphases of the book include inverse problems, multidimensional modeling, random fields, and hierarchical methods.

Statistical Image Processing Techniques for Noisy Images

Statistical Image Processing Techniques for Noisy Images PDF Author: Phillipe Réfrégier
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1441988556
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 261

Book Description
Statistical Processing Techniques for Noisy Images presents a statistical framework to design algorithms for target detection, tracking, segmentation and classification (identification). Its main goal is to provide the reader with efficient tools for developing algorithms that solve his/her own image processing applications. In particular, such topics as hypothesis test-based detection, fast active contour segmentation and algorithm design for non-conventional imaging systems are comprehensively treated, from theoretical foundations to practical implementations. With a large number of illustrations and practical examples, this book serves as an excellent textbook or reference book for senior or graduate level courses on statistical signal/image processing, as well as a reference for researchers in related fields.

Introduction to Image Processing Using R

Introduction to Image Processing Using R PDF Author: Alejandro C. Frery
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1447149505
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 95

Book Description
This book introduces the statistical software R to the image processing community in an intuitive and practical manner. R brings interesting statistical and graphical tools which are important and necessary for image processing techniques. Furthermore, it has been proved in the literature that R is among the most reliable, accurate and portable statistical software available. Both the theory and practice of R code concepts and techniques are presented and explained, and the reader is encouraged to try their own implementation to develop faster, optimized programs. Those who are new to the field of image processing and to R software will find this work a useful introduction. By reading the book alongside an active R session, the reader will experience an exciting journey of learning and programming.

Image Processing for Computer Graphics

Image Processing for Computer Graphics PDF Author: Jonas Gomes
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475727453
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 365

Book Description
The focus of this book is on providing a thorough treatment of image processing with an emphasis on those aspects most used in computer graphics. Throughout, the authors concentrate on describing and analysing the underlying concepts rather than on presenting algorithms or pseudocode. As befits a modern introduction to this topic, a healthy balance is struck between discussing the underlying mathematics of the subject and the main topics covered: signal processing, data discretization, the theory of colour and different colour systems, operations in images, dithering and half-toning, warping and morphing, and image processing.

Image Processing for Computer Graphics and Vision

Image Processing for Computer Graphics and Vision PDF Author: Luiz Velho

Pages : 476

Book Description
Image processing is concerned with the analysis and manipulation of images by computer. Providing a thorough treatment of image processing with an emphasis on those aspects most used in computer graphics, the authors concentrate on describing and analyzing the underlying concepts rather than on presenting algorithms or pseudocode. As befits a modern introduction to this topic, a good balance is struck between discussing the underlying mathematics and the main topics: signal processing, data discretization, the theory of colour and different colour systems, operations in images, dithering and half-toning, warping and morphing and image processing. This second edition reflects recent trends in science andtechnology that exploit image processing in computer graphics and vision applications. Stochastic image models and statistical methods for image processing are covered as are: A modern approach and new developments in the area, Probability theory for image processing, Applications in image analysis and computer vision.

Image Statistics in Visual Computing

Image Statistics in Visual Computing PDF Author: Tania Pouli
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1568817258
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 374

Book Description
To achieve the complex task of interpreting what we see, our brains rely on statistical regularities and patterns in visual data. Knowledge of these regularities can also be considerably useful in visual computing disciplines, such as computer vision, computer graphics, and image processing. The field of natural image statistics studies the regularities to exploit their potential and better understand human vision. With numerous color figures throughout, Image Statistics in Visual Computing covers all aspects of natural image statistics, from data collection to analysis to applications in computer graphics, computational photography, image processing, and art. The authors keep the material accessible, providing mathematical definitions where appropriate to help readers understand the transforms that highlight statistical regularities present in images. The book also describes patterns that arise once the images are transformed and gives examples of applications that have successfully used statistical regularities. Numerous references enable readers to easily look up more information about a specific concept or application. A supporting website also offers additional information, including descriptions of various image databases suitable for statistics. Collecting state-of-the-art, interdisciplinary knowledge in one source, this book explores the relation of natural image statistics to human vision and shows how natural image statistics can be applied to visual computing. It encourages readers in both academic and industrial settings to develop novel insights and applications in all disciplines that relate to visual computing.

Analysis of Variance in Statistical Image Processing

Analysis of Variance in Statistical Image Processing PDF Author: Ludwik Kurz
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 9780521581820
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 226

Book Description
A key problem in practical image processing is the detection of specific features in a noisy image. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) techniques can be very effective in such situations, and this book gives a detailed account of the use of ANOVA in statistical image processing. The book begins by describing the statistical representation of images in the various ANOVA models. The authors present a number of computationally efficient algorithms and techniques to deal with such problems as line, edge, and object detection, as well as image restoration and enhancement. By describing the basic principles of these techniques, and showing their use in specific situations, the book will facilitate the design of new algorithms for particular applications. It will be of great interest to graduate students and engineers in the field of image processing and pattern recognition.
