Nonisotopic Probing, Blotting, and Sequencing

Nonisotopic Probing, Blotting, and Sequencing PDF Author: Larry J. Kricka
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 9780080537665
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 518

Book Description
Since the publication of Nonistopic DNA Probe Techniques in 1992, the move away from radioactive materials for research and diagnostics has continued. This is due in part to public awareness of the hazards of radioactive waste and laws making radioactive disposal more difficult and costly and to improvement in both the sensitivity and convenience of nonisotopic techniques. Several new nonisotopic techniques have been developed and substantial improvements made to existing nonisotopic methods since 1992, and these are now included in Nonisotopic Probing, Blotting, and Sequencing. Nonisotopic Probing, Blotting, and Sequencing is an updated, expanded edition of the bestseller, Nonisotopic DNA Probe Techniques. It has been thoroughly revised to include the latest improvements in nonisotopic tagging techniques for macromolecules. Like its predecessor, it enables researchers to select the best nonisotopic method for their needs and maximize success by following its straightforward protocols. Provides strategies and detailed procedures for labeling, blotting, and probing specific nucleic acid sequences and, with this edition, protein molecules Gives protocols for nonisotopic DNA sequencing - new in this edition Gives extensive, practical information Presents background information for each method Provides expert accounts from the inventor or developer of each method Contains seven entirely new chapters Covers all major types of nonisotopic procedures for labeling and detection

Probing the Skin

Probing the Skin PDF Author: Dirk Vanderbeke
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 144387518X
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 352

Book Description
Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, this volume explores representations of skin in literature, art, art history, visual media, and medicine and its history. The essays collected here probe the symbolic potential of skin as a shifting sign in various historical and cultural contexts, and also examine the material and organic properties of the body’s largest organ. They deal with skin as a sensual organ, as an interface or contact zone, as the visual marker of identity, and as a lieu de memoire in different periods and media. In its material characteristics, skin is regarded as a medium, a canvas, a surface, and an object of both artistic and medical investigations. The contributions investigate representations of skin in sculpture, painting, film, and fictional, as well as non-fictional, texts from the 16th century to the present. The topics addressed here include the problematic representation of racial identity via skin colour in various media; the sensual qualities of the skin, such as smell or taste; the form and function of tattoos as markers of personal, as well as collective, identity; and scars as signifiers of personal pain and collective suffering.

Fundamental Physics for Probing and Imaging

Fundamental Physics for Probing and Imaging PDF Author: Wade Allison
Publisher: OUP Oxford
ISBN: 0191525332
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 348

Book Description
Physics has reduced fear and increased safety for society, largely by extending the power to see. The methods used are magnetic resonance, ionising radiation and sound, with their extensions. This textbook expounds the fundamental physics of these. It follows how they are applied by modern technology to "seeing" in clinical medicine including therapy and in other spheres of human activity such as archaeology, geophysics, security and navigation. By taking a broad view over the whole field, the book encourages comparisons, underlines the importance of public education and reaches fresh conclusions of some political importance concerning safety. This textbook has developed from a course given to third year students at Oxford and is written so that it can be used coherently as a basis for shorter courses by omitting certain chapters.

Active Cancellation of Probing in Linear Dipole Phased Array

Active Cancellation of Probing in Linear Dipole Phased Array PDF Author: Hema Singh
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9812878297
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 58

Book Description
In this book, a modified improved LMS algorithm is employed for weight adaptation of dipole array for the generation of beam pattern in multiple signal environments. In phased arrays, the generation of adapted pattern according to the signal scenario requires an efficient adaptive algorithm. The antenna array is expected to maintain sufficient gain towards each of the desired source while at the same time suppress the probing sources. This cancels the signal transmission towards each of the hostile probing sources leading to active cancellation. In the book, the performance of dipole phased array is demonstrated in terms of fast convergence, output noise power and output signal-to-interference-and noise ratio. The mutual coupling effect and role of edge elements are taken into account. It is established that dipole array along with an efficient algorithm is able to maintain multilobe beamforming with accurate and deep nulls towards each probing source. This work has application to the active radar cross section (RCS) reduction. This book consists of formulation, algorithm description and result discussion on active cancellation of hostile probing sources in phased antenna array. It includes numerous illustrations demonstrating the theme of the book for different signal environments and array configurations. The concepts in this book are discussed in an easy-to-understand manner, making it suitable even for the beginners in the field of phased arrays and adaptive array processing.
